iLoad™ Troubleshooting iLoad device says "iPod not found" This is usually the result of a faulty or loose connection between the iLoad and the iPod, the iLoad power adapter plug not being fully inserted in the rear of the iLoad, a defective iPod® USB cable, "corruption" on the iPod, or an iPod with a dead battery. Hard disk based iPods, like the Video iPods are more likely to have corruption than the flash based iPods, such as the Nano and Shuffle. First check to see if your iPod battery was/is dead. If you iPod displays a charging symbol on its screen (all dark), then you iPod needs to be charged prior to iLoading. (This can take more than 10 minutes just to bring it back to life if your iPod was totally discharged). Once your iPod shows signs of life (power, illuminated iPod screen), Power off your iLoad device, (to be extra "sure", remove the power connector from the rear of the iLoad device, wait ten seconds, reconnect it) and then check the connection to both the iPod and the rear of the iLoad device's USB port(s). It is best to always make sure that you iPod is fully charged prior to "iLoad-ing". Sound docking systems usually charge iPods while they are docked. You can also purchase an accessory iPod charger. If you are confident that the connections are secure and that your iPod is fully charged, then power on your iLoad device and re-attempt the operation. If your problem was not a discharged iPod battery, then perform a "non-computer assisted" reset of your iPod. This procedure will not erase the content on your iPod 1. For the iPod Photo, iPod mini, iPod video, and the iPod with the click-wheel, toggle the hold switch on and then off very quickly, and then press the menu button and the round center button at the same time. Hold them down until the screen resets (usually about 6 seconds). 2. For all other iPods, toggle the hold switch on and then off very quickly, then press the Play/Pause button and the Menu button at the same time. Hold them down until the screen resets (usually about 6 seconds). 3. If this does not immediately reset the iPod, try plugging the iPod into an iPod accessory charger and then repeating the above steps while the iPod has a power supply. 4. If the above steps have not resolved the problem, then proceed using iTunes and a computer as follows: 1. Attach your iPod to iTunes® , select MANAGE MY MUSIC MANUALLY and make sure that you have latest Firmware. Make sure that you have at least 500 MB (“megabytes”) of available space on your iPod. 2. Backup the contents of your iPod to iTunes, Manually. 3. Verify that the iPod is actually backed up on iTunes. 4. Re-Verify 5. Select RESTORE iPod TO FACTORY STATE. 6. Wait until the process is entirely completed and that the iPod returns to Normal State 7. EJECT your iPod from the computer/iTunes by the “click to eject” icon on iTunes, next to the iPod icon. 8. VERIFY that your iPod has ejected and does not say "DO NOT DISCONNECT". 9. STILL, to be safe, give the iPod 10 more seconds to properly dismount. 10. WithOUT power connected to back of iLoad, connect the iPod to the GREEN USB port on rear of iLoad 11. Connect white Power Brick cable to the rear of iLoad 12. Turn on your Load with the power button 13. When you see "Press Go to Read CD", press the left arrow once to get to System Test. Go through entire test EXCEPT that you DO NOT HAVE to Test Network (Select "N") and you do NOT HAVE to use the headset when it says "Connect Headset". Have a clean Music CD handy. Follow the prompts. This test should complete satisfactorily. 14. At conclusion of the test, say "N" to "Another CD" prompt. The CD and the iPod will eject. When the iPod returns to its Main Menu, press the iLoad power button to turn the iLoad off. Unplug the power from the rear of the iLoad. 15. Should you want to proceed with CD copying, you can re-power up the iLoad (suggest iPod be plugged into iLoad prior to application of power) and when it says "Press Go to Read CD", insert the iLoad Startup CD (unless you have satisfactorily performed the Started-up Disk installation previously on that same iPod) and press GO. The Startup CD process takes approximately 5.75 minutes to complete and need only be done when "introducing" an iLoad to a new iPod for the first time. We strongly urge you to backup the iPod regularly as the hard disk on iPods are vulnerable, especially when "writing/recording". We urge you to do this to an EXTERNAL USB disk and not to a computer, for security purposes. Most external USB disks will work however we offer a 120GB hard disk, that is the size of a pack of cards and does not require an external AC in-wall power supply. $149. This disk is small and can easily be locked in a safe or safe deposit box. It CAN be used to backup a computer as well. I have inserted a commercial Music CD into the iLoad and the album is not identified and is apparently "unknown" If after inserting a commercial music CD into your iLoad and pressing the GO button, your iLoad does not display the correct Album Title in the LCD window, here’s the likely solution: Did you copy the SET-UP CD that came with your iLoad on to your target iPod? This procedure needs to be accomplished just once... when you first introduce your iLoad to a new iPod. If you did not previously accomplish this procedure, then we’ve solved your problem. Insert the Set-Up CD and press GO. This procedure will take approximately 6 minutes. Make sure that your iPod is fully charged prior to accomplishing this procedure. If you did in fact install the Set-Up CD on your iPod, then here’s the likely answer: iLoad's on-board music database will recognize most popular commercial Music CDs. It will not recognize compilations that you make yourself and it may not recognize less popular Music CDs. iLoad maintains a far larger server-based music database on its internal servers. Occasionally, the incorrect Album Title may be displayed on the iLoad device. Perhaps it will display “unknown”. You can press the left and right arrow buttons to see if there are additional, alternate, and appropriate album titles displayed. If so, then press the GO button to select the correct choice or proceed by selecting “unknown” for now. If you have installed the iLoad SetUp CD successfully, your CD is still not identified, and you have registered as an iLoad Customer, you can update the unidentified music information in your iPod “post facto” using a wired Internet connection that is not behind a firewall and that does not require a user name or password. To do so, with your iLoad powered-on and at its Main Menu, and with your iPod connected to the iLoad, insert the Ethernet cable to the rear port on the iLoad device. It's labeled "Ethernet". Press the right arrow on the iLoad Control Panel until IDENTIFY SONGS is displayed and then press the GO button. Your iLoad device will communicate with our servers and identify the previously unidentified music information on your iPod. If the system can not connect to the Internet, it will let you know that it "Can not connect". If all of this does not solve your problem, then click on "NEED ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE" link at the bottom of this page, which will send an email to our Technical Service Ambassadors. Please be specific about the description of the problem, what steps you've already tried, your iLoad serial numbers and the best phone number to reach you at. Why does the iLoad device make a sound like a "fan moving lots of air" ? In the interest of system reliability, the iLoad device has three system fans. This sound is "normal" for the iLoad device and it is not a malfunction. iLoad does not seem to "power-up" Please check that your AC wall plug connector is properly inserted in the wall plug. If that doesn't solve the problem, check that the cord from the wall to the "brick" AC power adaptor is secure and firmly connected as well. If that doesn't solve the problem, insure that the connector with the 5.5 mm round barrel connector is firmly inserted in the rear of the iLoad device. If that doesn't solve the problem, check and see if the AC outlet that you're connected to has a on/off switch, if that doesn't solve the problem, check and see if the outlet itself has a built-in circuit breaker that has "popped" and needs re-setting (make sure that the wall outlet is not overloaded), if that doesn't solve the problem, check and see if a circuit breaker in your location's power panel has "tripped". If you are using a Power Strip, make sure that its own switch is ON and if the Power Strip has its own circuit breaker, that it hasn't tripped. If all of this does not solve your problem, then click on "NEED ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE" link at the bottom of this page, which will send an email to our Technical Service Ambassadors.
